Review: StreetDance 3D on DVD

What do you when you've just qualified for the National Titles, your lead dancer and choreographer quits for no real reason and you suddenly find yourself in charge of a group of dancers who will dump you if you forget to book the studio for the next practice?

In Carly's (Nichola Burley) case, you go back to delivering sandwiches.  Luckily, in one of her deliveries to a snooty Ballet School, she catches the eye of the ballet teacher (Charlotte Rampling), who makes Carly an offer she can't refuse - Teach my ballet dancers Hip Hop, and you can use the dance space.

The usual argy-bargy ensues as the Hip-Hoppers and Ballerina's compete for bragging rights, but slowly and surely they begin to work together.  As with all dance movies, the dialogue is secondary to the action, and the cliche holds true here.  The story is simplistic, yet still manages to be full of holes, but it doesn't matter.

The dancing more than makes up for what is lacking elsewhere.  The combination of Ballet and Hip-Hop is inspired, and the use of 3D is so kind to the look of London that you would suspect it was airbrushed.  It takes a while to get cooking, but the flailing torso's and energetic choreography get this one past the finish line.  Check it out.
