Video: The Roots (feat. John Legend) - Fire

The new Roots album is 'How I got over' and it's a cracker. This is one of the standout's, courtesy of John Legends distinctive croon. The vid is set in wartime, possibly world war 2, with a canniballistic renagade platoon leading the way.

No, that's no a National Enquirer headline, because that happened. Check it out below.

Stream: Richgirl featuring Fabolous & Rick Ross - Swagger Right (Produced by Rich Harrison)

I don't usually slap a 'produced by' on my subject headers, but when a track's produced by Rich Harrison (Beyonce's Crazy in Love, Amerie's One Thing), I'll make an exception.

This is track features Richgirl, who are actually four girls, so whilst Rich is a production genius, he's obviously no good at math.

Anyway, the track is a minimal smash, full of snaps and 808's, and devoid of a bassline.

Video: Kylie performs All the Lovers on Dancing with the Stars

I am not a massive fan of this song, and think it's one of the weakest in Kylie extensive catalogue, but my opinion didn't stop Miss Minogue from whooping it up on DWTC last night, with her parents in tow!

Video: Robyn - Hang with me

Fresh from the Pitchfork Music Festival, promotion for Robyn's second album for this year 'Body Talk Pt.2' is in full swing.  The stunning new single 'Hang with me' has been released, and now here's the accompanying video.

Blog: The Golden Age of Aussie Hip-Hop - The early 90's!

Did you ever wonder where Hip-Hop got its start in Australia?  We know where it's going, thanks to artists like the Hilltop Hoods, Bliss N Eso, Pegz, The Herd and so on, but where did it start.

Well, fashion indie has dug through the archives for a visual history of some of the mainstays of the early Oz Hip-Hop scene.  There's a few familiar faces, well names anyway, some of the faces are so young as to be unrecognizable!  Take a trip down memory lane...

Tabitha and Napoleon, two of the shows esteemed choreographers have donated this viral video to Dance Day, to help get you on your way.

The marketing machine for Step Up 3 is in full swing a dance dub contest, where you check out the music vid at the link above and see if you can do better!
Judging by some of the entries (see the one below), some people are taking this pretty seriously!

Video: So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 - 150th Episode

I haven't kept up with the latest iteration of So You Think You Can Dance, and that's mainly because I haven't been able to get my hands on any video (damn you Hulu!)
Finally I've found some footage, and they are a couple of crackers!  Wow, I don't know what I've been missing!
It's a shame Alex Wong is out of the competition after injuring himself, but it looks like the others have picked up the slack in his absence.

Video: Ne-Yo - Beautiful Monster

I'm not sure when Ne-yo turned from soul crooner into dancing machine, but here is with his new single "Beautiful Monster', with his Hancock/MJ persona on full display.  Although the video is a little corny, there's some great idea's coming through the choreography and they re-iterate the possibilities of story-telling in the music video and dance mediums.

Stream - Robyn - Hang with me (Single Version)

The album version of this song was a spare ballad, but Robyn has surprised us with the official single, turning the song into a shimmery summer pop jam, and a darn good one as well.  Can we proclaim this as the week of Robyn now?

Video: Robyn - Dancing on my own (on Letterman)

Whether it's at the Pitchfork festival or on TV, Robyn tears down the house wherever she's at.

Ah, College Humor.  Yeah, paying $30 for Pepsi gets old real quick, and what is up with the Roger Federer cologne?

Video: Bliss N Eso - Down by the River

Bliss N Eso are already well on the way to becoming aussie Hip Hop Legends, and their latest album sees them trying to cement their place whilst moving forward and building on the sounds that brought them here. The new album features guests as diverse as RZA from the Wu Tang Clan, Xzhibit and Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson. The first taste of the new record is the single Down by the River.

Video: LCD Soundsystem live @ Pitchfork Music Festival

That's right, LCD Soundsystem were also at Pitchfork, playing earlier today (Aussie time). They ran through a fair selection of classics, forgoing the tried and true rock trope of playing stuff from the new album, and the crowd were all the more appreciative for it. That said, the new stuff sounded awesome.

Video: Robyn - Live @ The Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago

Pop superstar (in our view anyway) Robyn graced the venerable Pitchfork festival, and she did not disappoint.  The Swedish stunner braved the heat and put in a set that had the crowd jumping from start to finish.

Blog: TEN's new dance and singing show 'Don't Stop Believing'

This is what they're replacing SYTYCD with.  It's an all singing, all dancing 'talent contest' that sounds like a reality version of Glee, but with lots of crap singers and crap dancers.  Look, I'm sure they'll unearth a few nuggets of talent from around this great country, but by and large it'll be just another dodgy karaoke show.  Then again, with the success of Australia's got Talent and X-Factor, who am I to criticize.

Video: M.I.A. gets weird, wild on Letterman

M.I.A. dropped by Letterman's show last night and things got a little weird for her performance of the single 'Born Free'.  I'll let the video speak for itself.

ReelDance supports innovative, international creative practice that works across disciplinary boundaries at the cutting edge of dance, film and new media art.

Here's a snippet from Paris is Burning, which is an unblinking behind the scenes story of fashion obsessed New Yorkers who created "voguing"

Video: Pineapple Dance Studio's - The TV Show!

In the wake of the axing of Ten So You Think You Can Dance, comes the news that two new dance shows will be popping up on pay-tv screens over the next few months.  Got to Dance we mentioned yesterday, but Pineapple Dance Studio's is the other and it presents a more intriguing format than previous shows.  From all accounts it will be part documentary, part mockumentary, with the real teachers and students mixing it up with actors to give a behind-the-scenes look at one of the worlds most famous studio's.

Pineapple Studio's has seen some of history's biggest musical acts rehearse their worldwide tours there, including Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue and Madonna.

Blog: So You Think You Can Dance Australia has been AXED

Yes, a TEN spokesperson has confirmed that SYTYCD will not be back this year.  A new show starring heartthrob Adam Garcia called Got To Dance will be starting on Fox8 soon, but that hardly fills the void left by a reliably entertaining show.

Here's a few memories...

Blog: MissEducation provides a platform for female MC's

The ladies can be a little under-appreciated and under-represented in the Hip Hop world, so it's good to see sites like misseducation getting female MC's out there, and also backing it up by featuring some of the greats from years past.  Gives me an opportunity to give some shine to some of my favourites...

Video: The LXD - The Tale of Trevor Drift

This is very special indeed!  The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (LXD), led by the talented Jon Chu, let fly with the first of a series of very expensive looking dance-inspired webisodes.  The first ep is the Tale of Trevor Drift, and yes it's plenty corny, like a dancing Spiderman, but the dancing is first rate.

Video: Israeli Soldiers dancing in Hebron to Ke$ha's Tik-Tok

This means one of two things.  Either dance is the one key to unifying the world or Ke$ha is indeed Satan.  Jokes aside, it is quite amusing how dance and music immerses itself in even the most serious of locations.  Just pick a better song next time fella's!

Video: Highlights from the South Korean Hip Hop battle Championships

While Kim Jong II rules the North with an iron fist and old school aesthetic, the South Koreans have soaked up the western culture like many of their Asian neighbours.  In fact, they're amongst the worlds best when it comes to Hip Hop dance crews.  Here's a snippet of what to expect from the South Korean's at the Worlds.

Video: South Africa - The Diski Dance - South African Tourism 2010 TV Advert

This is the Diski Dance, invented in South Africa for the Soccer World Cup.  It has many steps, and when put together resembles someone playing soccer with an imaginary ball.  Although nobody flops and grabs their head in faux pain, isn't that a soccer move?

Video: Alex and Twitch rip Hip Hop on So You Think You Can Dance

Alex and Twitch, or Twilex as they're becoming known, ripped through an exhilarating 2 minute Hip Hop routine this week, leaving no-one in doubt as to their abilities to win this event.  Check them out.

Video: Rick Ross and Kanye West - Live Fast Die Young

Yeezy spits some heat rocks alongside the Teflon Don on this new track from Ross' upcoming LP, also titled Teflon Don.  With West and a host of other behind the boards, you can almost put it down as another certified summer banger.

Video: Chris Brown dancing (and crying) at the BET Awards

Chris Brown performed at the BET awards this week with a tribute to Michael Jackson, who passed on one year ago.  Whilst Brown's his footwork was on point, he kinda lost it when it came time to sing.  And when I say he lost it, I mean he broke down crying, which in itself is kinda touching.

Unfortunately for Chris, every time he starts to endear himself to me, I force myself to look at the following photo and remember; that's right, dude beats on girls.  Not cool.

So, with that in mind, try and enjoy this touching tribute to Michael Jackson.

Release: Big Boi - Sir Luscious Leftfoot - Son of Chico Dusty

The non-acting half of Outkast, and the pimp to Andre 3000's playa, Big Boi, is finally unleashing his long awaited solo album.  Although it doesn't contain a couple of stunna singles in Royal Flush and Lookin at me, due to drama with Outkast's label jive, the rest of the album is a beauty.  Don't believe me, check out the following tracks, all of which appear on the album...
